Total score of 248kg; loses gold by 3kg in snatch
South Korea's An Si-seong finishes 8th among 9 competitors with 214kg
North Korea's Pak Jin-hae claimed a silver medal in the women's 61-kilogram weightlifting event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Pak lifted 109kg in the snatch and 139kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 248kg Friday at the SME Support Hall in Nagoya, Japan.
She opened with a successful 105kg lift in the first snatch attempt, then cleared 109kg on her second to make a solid start. Her third attempt failed, but she finished the snatch round in sole second place.
In the clean and jerk, Pak failed her opening attempt of 135kg but succeeded on the second try at the same weight. She then lifted 139kg on her third attempt to seal the silver medal.
China's Yang Liuye took the gold, recording 112kg in the snatch, 139kg in the clean and jerk and a total of 251kg. Yang matched Pak in the clean and jerk, but her 3kg advantage in the snatch proved decisive.
The bronze went to Taiwan's Kuo Hsing-chun, who totaled 237kg with a 107kg snatch and 130kg clean and jerk.
South Korea's An Si-seong, competing for the Gwangju Metropolitan City office team, posted a total of 214kg — 96kg in the snatch and 118kg in the clean and jerk — to finish eighth among the nine competitors.
North Korea continues its medal run in weightlifting, a traditionally strong discipline for the country. On Wednesday, Ri Song-gum set a world record to win gold in the sport, delivering the North Korean delegation its first gold of the Games.
