President Lee Jae Myung and first lady Kim Hye-kyung released a holiday video message Friday — chuseok day itself — greeting citizens and overseas Koreans while Lee is on a state visit to Mexico. "After an unusually grueling summer marked by unprecedented heat waves, the harvest holiday is finally here," the couple said.

"Regardless of any qualifications or conditions, and without regard to differences in opinion or outlook, I will run even harder so that a bright light shines equally on the life of every single citizen," Lee said.

He said the holiday is "a time when feelings of gratitude that we never quite managed to express, and the faces of those we miss, come to mind," and added, "I too take this opportunity to convey my deepest gratitude and respect to all our citizens who are quietly getting through each day, wherever they may be."

"Though the places we live, the work we do, and the paths we have walked may all differ, I believe our love for this country is one," Lee said. "As president, I am truly grateful and honored to stand alongside all of you — the great people of this nation."

Kim also offered her wishes, saying she hoped everyone would "spend this precious chuseok passing along greetings to those you miss and sharing happiness with those you love."
