Officials walk 1-kilometer stretch from Cheongdam intersection to Dosan Park intersection with police, fire department
Parade routes, traffic control zones and emergency access roads reviewed; district mayor vows safety-first approach
Gangnam District Mayor Kim Hyun-ki conducted an on-site safety inspection Wednesday along Dosandaero with police, fire department officials and other relevant agencies ahead of the 2026 Gangnam Festival.
Starting at 1:30 p.m. and lasting about two hours, Kim walked roughly 1 kilometer alongside Park Sang-won, co-chairman of the Gangnam Festival organizing committee, and other officials — from the parade staging area near Cheongdam intersection to the main stage at Dosan Park intersection — reviewing traffic control plans and safety management measures for the event.
Particular attention was paid to crowd flow routes, vehicle detour roads and fire truck access lanes for emergency situations, given the large crowds and traffic restrictions expected during the festival.
Kim also visited nearby restaurants and businesses that will be directly affected by traffic controls during the event, explaining the schedule and scope of restrictions and asking for their understanding. He listened to concerns raised on the spot and said feedback that could be incorporated into event operations would be reflected accordingly, as part of ongoing efforts to minimize inconvenience to local residents and businesses.
The 2026 Gangnam Festival runs Oct. 3–5 along Dosandaero and at various locations across Gangnam. On Oct. 3, a grand parade featuring residents from all 22 dong will proceed from Cheongdam intersection to Dosan Park intersection, followed by concerts and other programs along Dosandaero. In preparation for the event, traffic restrictions on the Hakdong intersection–Dosan Park intersection stretch will begin at midnight on Oct. 2. All lanes in both directions will be closed Oct. 3–4. During the parade on Oct. 3, some lanes on the stretch from the southern end of Yeongdong Bridge through Cheongdam intersection to Hakdong intersection will also be restricted.
"Safety is paramount, given the large-scale parade and various events taking place on Dosandaero along with traffic controls," Kim said. "We will work closely with police, the fire department and other relevant agencies to thoroughly review everything from traffic and pedestrian routes to emergency response systems, so that both residents and visitors can enjoy the festival with peace of mind."
