Independent lawmaker leads Jowon C&I survey for first time; support among PPP base rises 4.7 percentage points in two weeks

Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon has topped a presidential preference survey for the first time, according to new polling results.

In a survey conducted by pollster Jowon C&I on behalf of Straight News from Saturday through Monday, Han led with 18.1 percent among 2,007 adults aged 18 and older nationwide. It marked the first time Han had placed first in a Jowon C&I presidential preference poll.

The top candidates were clustered within the margin of error. Behind Han came Democratic Party of Korea leader Kim Min-seok at 14.8 percent, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon at 12.6 percent, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok at 11.9 percent, Rebuilding Korea Party policy research institute head Cho Guk at 8.6 percent, Democratic Party lawmaker Jung Chung-rae at 6.7 percent, Democratic Party lawmaker Song Young-gil at 5.5 percent, former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum at 3.7 percent, and Reform Party lawmaker Lee Jun-seok at 2.5 percent. Some 2.9 percent named another figure, 9.4 percent said no one was suitable, and 3.1 percent said they did not know.

Compared with the same survey two weeks earlier, Han's support rose 2.7 percentage points. Kim fell 1.2 percentage points, Oh dropped 1.6 percentage points, and Jang declined 2.3 percentage points.

A notable shift emerged among PPP supporters. Within that group, Han led at 29.2 percent, followed by Jang at 26.7 percent and Oh at 24.0 percent. Two weeks ago, Jang had led among PPP supporters at 30.1 percent, ahead of Oh at 26.2 percent and Han at 24.5 percent. Han gained 4.7 percentage points in the latest survey, while Jang fell 3.4 percentage points and Oh dropped 2.2 percentage points.

Among Democratic Party supporters, Kim led at 30.5 percent, followed by Cho at 14.6 percent, Jung at 11.1 percent and Song at 10.8 percent.

Among voters with no party affiliation, Han led at 27.0 percent. Among self-identified centrists, Han came first at 21.2 percent, followed by Kim at 19.2 percent, Oh at 10.8 percent, Jang at 9.6 percent, Jung at 6.4 percent and Song at 6.3 percent.

By region, Han led in Seoul at 18.3 percent, ahead of Oh at 16.3 percent and Kim at 13.3 percent. In the Daejeon-Sejong-Chungcheong area, Han led at 19.0 percent, followed by Kim at 16.8 percent. In the Daegu-North Gyeongsang Province area, Oh led at 18.9 percent, ahead of Han at 15.7 percent and Jang at 14.3 percent. In the Busan-Ulsan-South Gyeongsang Province area, Han led at 22.1 percent, followed by Kim at 12.7 percent and Jang at 11.9 percent.

In the South Jeolla Province-Gwangju-North Jeolla Province area, Kim led at 22.5 percent, followed by Cho at 11.4 percent, Han at 10.1 percent and Song at 10.0 percent.

The survey was conducted via automated response system using a 100 percent mobile random-digit dialing method with proportional quota sampling by gender, age group and region. The response rate was 4.1 percent, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
