South Korea will hold its largest-ever K-culture expo in Mexico, the hub of the Latin American market.

The ministries of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; Trade, Industry and Energy; Health and Welfare; Oceans and Fisheries; and SMEs and Startups, along with the Korea Creative Content Agency and other agencies, will host the 2026 K-EXPO Mexico in Mexico City from Thursday through Sunday.

Mexico is the largest gateway to the Latin American market, with a population of about 131.94 million — the highest among Spanish-speaking countries — as of 2025, according to the Ministry of Statistics. The country is also fertile ground for K-culture, sharing cultural traits with Korea such as family-centered values and emotionally expressive social customs.

Mexico's content market is valued at $30 billion, ranking 14th in the world, and is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 6.4 percent through 2029, according to the Korea Creative Content Agency. Spotify's 2025 data showed Mexico has the world's fifth-largest K-pop fandom, with more than 14 million fans.

The popularity of K-pop has been driving broader interest across Latin America in K-food, beauty and other consumer categories. Exports of the top five consumer goods — food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, household products and fashion apparel — to Latin America reached $779 million in the first half of this year, up 28.1 percent from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

K-food exports to Latin America rose 19.5 percent year-on-year in the same period, the second-fastest growth rate in the world after the Middle East, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Cosmetics exports to Latin America by small and medium-sized enterprises also surged 131.9 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2026, according to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

To accelerate K-culture's growth in Latin America, the government is staging its largest-ever comprehensive expo in Mexico.

A consumer exhibition featuring leading K-culture companies will run Friday through Sunday at the World Trade Center Mexico City. K-food companies Nongshim, CJ CheilJedang, Binggrae and Cheong Kwan Jang will showcase globally popular products including ramyun, banana milk and dried seaweed crisps, while K-beauty leaders Amorepacific and LG H&H will present AI-powered personalized product recommendations and scalp diagnostic services.

Samsung Electronics, Kia and LG Electronics will also take part in the exhibition, presenting K-content fused with cutting-edge technology.

On Thursday and Friday, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Ministry of Health and Welfare; KOTRA; Korea Creative Content Agency; and the Korea Cosmetic Industry Institute will jointly run a business matching session. The event will bring together 120 K-culture companies and 258 Mexican buyers.

On Saturday, a K-pop concert called "Korea Spotlight" will take place at the Pepsi Center, featuring singers Winner, Alpha Drive One, Soyou, Dayoung and Touched.

"Latin America is a key emerging market where K-culture has entered a full-fledged growth phase, and Mexico is at the center of that market," Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Choi Hwi-young said. "I hope this expo serves as an important springboard for opening new markets for K-culture while also bringing us one step closer to everyday life in Latin America."

The Mexico expo follows the 2026 K-EXPO USA held in Los Angeles in May and the 2026 K-EXPO France held in Paris in June.

The US expo brought together major K-culture companies in content and food, as well as AI content firms showcasing advanced technology and the latest trends. Netflix, the Korea Football Association and Naver Webtoon presented their content. BBQ operated a food truck, while chef Song Hun and actor Ryu Su-young, known as a hansik ambassador, held cooking events.

The France expo, held to mark the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties between South Korea and France, featured concerts by popular K-pop acts including Taemin, Monsta X, Hearts2Hearts and NCT Wish as its headline events. A consumer exhibition covered everything from Korean subway culture and hiking trails to Han River ramyun and AI-generated films.
