Jungnang-gu and the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul's 7th District formalize preparations for World Youth Day, pledging administrative support, information sharing and use of local human and material resources.
Jungnang-gu signed an MOU with the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul's 7th District on Friday to ensure the smooth hosting of the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day (WYD).
The agreement was drawn up so that the two parties can jointly prepare what is needed to host the event and ensure the local community is ready to safely welcome young visitors from around the world.
World Youth Day is an international gathering where Catholic youth from across the globe come together to share their faith and culture. The 2027 edition will be held in Seoul and participating regional dioceses from July 29 to Aug. 8. More than 1 million young people from around the world are expected to visit Seoul, with Jungnang-gu also anticipated to receive domestic and international visitors.
Under the MOU, the two organizations will cooperate across several areas: administrative support for WYD operations, sharing and promoting event-related information, and making use of local human and material resources.
"Through World Youth Day, young people from countries around the world will be able to visit Jungnang and experience our history, culture and nature," Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "Working together with the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul's 7th District and the local community, we will steadily prepare everything needed to welcome the world's youth safely."
