Coway scores 82.2 points across 4 generative AI platforms, sole 'AI Champion' among 12 brands
Samsung, LG lead in 4 appliance categories, but specialist brand Coway dominates water purifiers
Add a price condition and Coway, Kyowon Wells and SK Magic tie — rankings shift with the question
Coway ranked first in the rental water purifier category in a brand competitiveness analysis conducted across four generative AI platforms — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude. While Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics dominated major home appliance categories such as washing machines and dryers, Coway pulled nearly 20 points ahead of the second-place finisher in the water purifier segment.
AIBIXLab analyzed the AI Brand Index (AIBIX) for 182 brands across eight home and consumer electronics categories, releasing the results Monday. Coway scored 82.2 points in the rental water purifier category, outpacing second-place LG Electronics, which scored 62.6 points, by 19.6 points.
Coway was the only brand among the 12 rental water purifier brands surveyed to receive the "AI Champion" rating. It also led in "first-mention share" — the rate at which a specific brand appears at the top of a generative AI's response to a general rental water purifier recommendation query — capturing 69.2 percent.
A notable finding was the competitive dynamic between general home appliance conglomerates and specialist brands. Among the eight product categories, LG Electronics ranked first in washing machines and dryers, Samsung Electronics topped air purifiers, and the two companies tied for first in cordless vacuum cleaners.
Specialist brands led in the remaining four categories. Coway topped rental water purifiers, Roborock led robot vacuum cleaners, Sony came first in wireless earphones and headphones, and Minix ranked first in food waste processors. While Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics command high AI visibility in large appliances, specialist brands' recognition in specific product segments carried through into AI responses as well.
Coway's margin over the second-place brand was wide even compared with other categories where specialist brands led. Roborock scored 79.2 points, beating Ecovacs at 54.7 by 24.5 points, while Sony scored 72.5 points, edging Apple at 61.5 by 11 points. Minix scored 68.8 points, ahead of Cuckoo at 63.5 by 5.3 points.
Similar patterns emerged in other appliance categories. In air purifiers, Samsung Electronics scored 72.3 points and LG Electronics 70.8 points overall, but when queries specified "fine dust removal" or "large-capacity living room use," LG Electronics led in first-mention share at 66.7 percent. In robot vacuum cleaners, Roborock dominated overall, but under the condition "studio apartment or small home," Xiaomi took the top first-mention share at 50 percent.
The survey covered Korean-language responses from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude from Aug. 23 to Sept. 4. AIBIXLab calculated the AIBIX by aggregating patterns of brand appearance, mention, recommendation and citation across the platforms.
