Partners with Seoul, Busan viewer media centers and Dongguk, Dongseo universities
Program to uncover local content, offer scholarships to top creators
LG HelloVision will team up with youth creators to discover local attractions and present them as video content, using SNS to promote regional value nationwide while giving young people hands-on experience in broadcasting and video production.
LG HelloVision announced Monday that it signed MOUs with the Seoul and Busan Viewer Media Centers, Dongguk University and Dongseo University to cultivate youth video creators under the "Local Editor Crew" program.
The signing ceremonies were held separately — in Busan on Sept. 8 and in Seoul on Thursday. Attendees included Noh Seong-rae, LG HelloVision's head of external affairs and ESG; Kim Yong-seong, chair of Dongseo University's Department of Broadcasting and Film; Bae Hyo-soon, director of the Viewer Media Foundation's Busan Center; Senior Vice President Lim Seong-won of LG HelloVision; Kang Gyu-young, vice president of Dongguk University and head of the Seoul Anchor Project; and Lee Hong-ryeol, director of the Viewer Media Foundation's Seoul Center.
Under the partnership, the organizations agreed to pursue collaborative projects — including producing and spreading local content from a youth perspective — and to build an industry-academia cooperation ecosystem by pooling their human and material resources.
The Local Editor Crew is a group dedicated to discovering hidden local gems, cultural spots and attractions from a youth perspective and turning them into shareable content. LG HelloVision aims to use the crew to promote regional content while giving young participants practical, career-oriented experience.
Crew members will serve as "local diggers" in Seoul and Busan, working in teams each month to uncover hidden flavors, spaces, people and issues in their regions and produce short-form video content. The content will be featured on LG HelloVision's regional channels and its Instagram magazine "Local Digging." Top-performing crew members will also receive scholarships.
LG HelloVision expects the project to energize local economies by tapping into the "local digging" trend — a growing interest in exploring the deeper culture of one's region. The company also plans to strengthen participants' professional capabilities in broadcasting and video production through hands-on content creation and mentoring from industry experts.
"We cheer on the Local Editor Crew as they reimagine regional branding and grow their dreams alongside their communities," said Lim Seong-won, senior vice president at LG HelloVision. "LG HelloVision will continue to build a sustainable local content ecosystem grounded in a cooperative model between industry, local government and academia, and lead the way in spreading ESG values throughout our communities."
