Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey" has surpassed 11 million admissions in South Korea just 45 days after its opening.

Distributor Universal Pictures said Thursday morning that the film's cumulative audience had crossed the 11 million mark.

That makes it the sixth foreign film ever to reach that threshold in the domestic market. The five titles ahead of it are "Avengers: Endgame" (2019, about 13.93 million admissions), "Frozen 2" (2019, about 13.74 million), "Avatar" (2009, about 13.62 million), "Aladdin" (2019, about 12.55 million) and "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018, about 11.21 million).

"Odyssey" has also narrowed the gap with fifth-ranked "Avengers: Infinity War" to fewer than 200,000 admissions.

The film had held the top spot on the daily box office for 42 consecutive days since its opening before relinquishing first place for the first time on Wednesday to "The Intern," starring Choi Min-sik, which opened that day.

"Odyssey" still leads in advance ticket sales, however, suggesting it will continue to draw audiences.

The film follows Odysseus (played by Matt Damon) on his journey home after leading the Greeks to victory in the Trojan War. Based on Homer's epic poem, Nolan shot the entire film on IMAX film cameras to bring the grand world of Greek mythology to life.

"Odyssey" opened Aug. 5 and became the second film this year to surpass 10 million admissions, following "The King's Warden."
