LG Uplus has joined forces with Hyundai Elevator to accelerate the development of an AI-based remote monitoring system. The two companies also plan to expand cooperation in the security sector and work together to build a next-generation elevator service ecosystem.

LG Uplus announced Thursday that it signed an MOU with Hyundai Elevator on Tuesday at Hyundai Group Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to cooperate on wireless services and AI and security for a smart remote monitoring platform.

Under the agreement, the two companies will apply LG Uplus's machine-to-machine (M2M) service to communications between Hyundai Elevator's smart remote monitoring platform, MIRI, and its elevators, with the aim of improving the stability of remote monitoring operations.

The companies will also pilot an elevator emergency call service model incorporating AI voice recognition technology to enhance passenger safety. Under the plan, AI will handle an initial analysis of emergency calls, managing routine inquiries and malfunctions, while staff will respond immediately to genuine emergencies.

The move comes amid concerns that elevator emergency call devices — critical equipment during entrapment or other urgent situations — can delay responses to real emergencies due to malfunctions, prank calls and routine inquiries.

In addition, the two companies are reviewing plans to expand security cooperation by applying LG Uplus's security monitoring service and its cloud-based network and integrated security platform, U+SASE, to Hyundai Elevator's MIRI system.

The two companies previously co-developed MIRI View, a service that uses AI-powered CCTV inside elevators to detect abnormal situations — such as screaming, falls or prolonged stays — and relay alerts to a monitoring center. They plan to continue working together to build a future-oriented elevator service ecosystem that improves safety and convenience for customers.

"We have innovated the elevator remote monitoring system by combining AI and security capabilities on the foundation of stable wireless communications," said Lim Jang-hyeok, head of LG Uplus's enterprise customer group. "We will work closely with Hyundai Elevator to identify a range of innovative initiatives that can enhance customer safety and convenience."
