French cargo containment firm GTT grants product approval

Dongsung Finetec, the insulation subsidiary of Dongsung Chemical, has unveiled a new cryogenic insulation product for LNG carriers.

The company introduced the product, called HFO R-PUF, at Gastech 2026 — a global energy industry exhibition and conference held in Bangkok, Thailand — on Tuesday.

The new product replaces conventional HFC-based blowing agents with HFO-based alternatives that carry a lower global warming potential, while also improving cryogenic insulation performance. DNV carbon footprint verification confirmed that the product generates 33 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than its predecessor. Thermal conductivity in cryogenic operating ranges has also improved by up to 6 percent compared with the existing product.

Also on Tuesday, Dongsung Finetec held a product approval ceremony with GTT, a French LNG cargo containment technology company. The company plans to pursue onboard application of the new product on vessels under construction in 2027, and intends to expand discussions on product adoption centered on global LNG carrier projects.

"This new product will serve as an important milestone in expanding Dongsung Finetec's low-carbon, high-efficiency technology into global projects," said Park Ji-il, head of the company's business division. "We will continue to introduce differentiated products and technology under the ECOTECO brand and create new growth opportunities in the global eco-friendly marine equipment market."
