Yoo Seung-han, a Korea University economics professor specializing in market design and platform economics, has joined the Korea Fair Trade Commission as a non-standing member.

The Fair Trade Commission said Wednesday it had appointed Yoo to the post. Non-standing members are appointed by the president upon the recommendation of the Fair Trade Commission chairman and serve three-year terms.

Yoo earned his doctorate in economics from Cornell University in 2008 and went on to work as a postdoctoral researcher at the National University of Singapore and as a professor at Nanyang Technological University. He has been on the faculty of Korea University's economics department since 2011, rising from assistant professor to associate professor to full professor.

His research has focused on microeconomic theory, market design and platform economics. He has served on the Fair Trade Commission's competition policy advisory committee this year and has also been active as an editorial board member of the Journal of Econometrics and an organizing committee member of the East Asian Conference on Contract Theory.

The commission said it expects Yoo to strengthen the expertise of its adjudication process, drawing on his background in economics, his research in market design and online platforms, and his advisory work on competition policy.
