Packages delivered to children's homes from Wednesday through Friday, with four servings per child — including easy-to-cook soups, banchan, fruit, yugwa and juice
Dongjak-gu will provide holiday food packages this Chuseok to help vulnerable children enjoy a warm holiday season, continuing a program it launched during the Lunar New Year.
The district is delivering the packages to 428 children under the age of 18 who use the Kkumnamu welfare card. Each package contains easy-to-cook soups — including radish soup, seaweed soup and curry — along with banchan, fruit, yugwa and juice.
Each package contains four servings in total. Households with two or more eligible children will receive one package per household.
District community centers will deliver the packages directly to children's homes from Wednesday through Friday. The cost of the packages will not be deducted from the children's Kkumnamu card balance, easing the holiday meal burden on families.
Dongjak-gu is also extending holiday support to other vulnerable groups: national merit recipients will receive a 50,000 won ($37) consolation payment per person, basic livelihood and medical aid recipients will receive 50,000 won per household, and home-based medical aid recipients will receive a Chuseok sharing package of fruit, rice cakes and other goods.
In addition, six welfare centers — Sangdo, Sadang, Dongjak-isu, Heukseok, Daebang and Dongjak General Social Welfare Center — will deliver holiday food packages to senior residents from Thursday through Sept. 22, as part of a community sharing initiative.
"We have prepared carefully so that our neighbors in need can enjoy a warm and fulfilling Chuseok," District Mayor Ryu Sam-young said. "We will continue to minimize gaps in welfare coverage and strengthen community-centered integrated care services."
