'HL-CMP' automated drawing inspection system takes top prize

HL D&I Halla held an in-house AI competition aimed at applying artificial intelligence to real work processes and boosting productivity across the company.

The company announced Tuesday that the competition ran for 17 weeks beginning in May, drawing participation from 47 teams.

Entries spanned a wide range of business functions — from construction tasks such as automated design drawing reviews and on-site work management, to back-office operations including accounting, finance and human resources.

HL D&I Halla evaluated submissions on practical applicability, operational improvement, level of AI use and innovation, ultimately selecting seven winning entries.

The top prize went to HL-CMP (Construction Management Platform), an automated system for generating drawing inspection reports. Judges gave it high marks for laying out the overall architecture of a construction data management platform and for developing a concrete inspection module as the first component to be built out.

HL D&I Halla is also applying AI to the residential sector. Centered on its AI-based smart home platform Touch HL, the company is integrating residential spaces with mobility and community services, and developing related home solutions such as an AI-powered low-noise range hood that detects real-time air quality and operates automatically.

"We will continue developing AI-based residential technology while expanding AI use across all areas of our business operations, raising work productivity and accelerating digital-driven innovation," a company official said.

Meanwhile, HL D&I Halla has been securing a string of public infrastructure contracts. In March, it won a 52.8 billion won ($39.2 million) contract to extend a breakwater at Saemangeum New Port, and in July it signed a 155 billion won deal with Korea Expressway Corporation for the first section of a highway construction project between Jecheon and Yeongwol.
