Elon Musk's social media company X, formerly Twitter, and its AI subsidiary SpaceXAI, formerly xAI, have dropped their antitrust lawsuit against Apple.

The two companies filed documents Monday (local time) with the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas withdrawing their claims against Apple.

In the filing, they said the claims against Apple "have been resolved" and that Apple raised no objection to the dismissal.

However, they said they intend to press ahead with their lawsuit against OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, which was named as a co-defendant.

X and SpaceXAI had filed the damages suit after Apple announced it would exclusively integrate ChatGPT into the operating systems of its devices, including the iPhone, arguing the move violated antitrust law.

The withdrawal is widely seen as a response to Apple's recent decision to distance itself from OpenAI — including by adopting Google's Gemini instead of ChatGPT as the AI model for its operating system.

OpenAI had grown frustrated that ChatGPT was not deeply integrated into Apple Intelligence as expected during their partnership, and that Apple ultimately chose Gemini as its default AI model. Apple, for its part, appears to be keeping OpenAI at arm's length as the ChatGPT maker pushes into the hardware business — a space Apple views as competitive.
