Continental Tire announced Tuesday that it will supply its EcoContact 7 as the original equipment (OE) tire for Volkswagen's new compact electric vehicle, the ID. Polo. The EcoContact 7 in 17- and 18-inch sizes has received OE approval as the summer tire for the ID. Polo and will be fitted as standard on the vehicle.

The EcoContact 7 is a premium summer tire featuring low rolling resistance, extended tread life and low-noise performance.

Both the 17- and 18-inch sizes fitted to the ID. Polo have earned the top A rating for energy efficiency and wet braking on the EU tire label, combining reduced energy consumption with stable braking performance on wet surfaces.

In addition, the EcoContact 7 uses a special compound blend to reduce internal friction and rolling resistance. Its sidewall incorporates an "AeroDimple" structure inspired by the surface of a golf ball, which cuts aerodynamic drag at the rear of the tire during driving. A "Silent Pattern" tread design, tuned to the noise frequencies most common in urban driving, further reduces road noise.

The EcoContact 7 is expected to go on sale in South Korea this month, giving domestic electric vehicle drivers the chance to experience its low rolling resistance and quiet ride in sizes suited to their vehicles.

Niko Kyriazopoulos, head of the replacement tire division at Continental Tire Korea, said driving efficiency and ride quietness are especially important in electric vehicles, making it essential to choose a tire that also delivers reliable braking performance. "The adoption of the EcoContact 7 as the OE tire for the Volkswagen ID. Polo is a testament to those product strengths," he said. "We will continue to introduce products suited to domestic customers in line with the evolving electric vehicle market."

Meanwhile, Continental Tire has been expanding its customer touchpoints through a range of marketing activities, including a recent industry-academia collaboration with EMOC, a hands-on marketing society at Ewha Womans University, aimed at strengthening the company's brand awareness and developing a long-term branding strategy.
