Gobundari, Dunchon Station and Myeongil traditional markets offer up to 30% back in Onuri gift vouchers on purchases of agricultural, livestock and seafood products
Gangdong-gu in Seoul is rolling out a series of market-by-market promotions and free parking around traditional markets for the Chuseok holiday season, aiming to ease residents' shopping costs and boost foot traffic at local markets. Highlights include cash-back rebates on purchases of agricultural, livestock and seafood products.
From Wednesday through Sunday, Gobundari Traditional Market, Dunchon Station Traditional Market and Myeongil Traditional Market will hold a rebate event returning up to 30 percent of the purchase price of agricultural, livestock and seafood products in Onuri gift vouchers.
The rebate scope varies by market: Myeongil Traditional Market covers seafood purchases, while Gobundari and Dunchon Station traditional markets cover agricultural and livestock products. Shoppers can receive up to 20,000 won ($15) per person during the event period — those spending between 34,000 won and less than 67,000 won receive 10,000 won back, and those spending 67,000 won or more receive 20,000 won in Onuri gift vouchers. However, the event may end early if each market's rebate budget runs out.
Through Monday, Gobundari, Dunchon Station, Myeongil and Seongnae traditional markets will also hold their own Chuseok events tailored to each market's character, offering a range of benefits including Onuri gift voucher rebates, discounts on ritual food items and prize draws to attract holiday shoppers. These events are also subject to early closure if budgets are exhausted.
Myeongil Traditional Market is running a promotion through Tuesday — from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — giving customers who spend a combined 50,000 won or more across two or more shops a 10,000-won Onuri gift voucher, along with Chuseok price discounts.
Gobundari Traditional Market will give customers who spend 50,000 won or more a 10,000-won Onuri gift voucher, running Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A prize draw will also be held Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Seongnae Traditional Market will hold a prize draw and price discount event for shoppers starting at 1 p.m. Thursday. At Dunchon Station Traditional Market, customers spending 50,000 won or more on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will receive a 10,000-won Onuri gift voucher, along with item-specific discounts.
The district is also opening parking spaces near the markets free of charge to make shopping more convenient for residents. The off-street public parking lot near Gobundari Traditional Market and the on-street public parking lot near Amsa General Market will be free around the clock from Sept. 24 through Sept. 26.
For Gildong Bokjori Market, which has no public parking lot, the district has arranged temporary parking at nearby schools and religious facilities with their cooperation. The playground at Gildong Elementary School will be open free of charge daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sept. 24 through Sept. 27, and the parking lot at Gildong Church will be available free of charge daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday through Sept. 25.
"We hope that through agricultural, livestock and seafood product rebates, discount events and parking convenience, we can ease residents' burden of holiday shopping and bring vitality to traditional markets and the local commercial district," Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said.
