The Gunwi Heungbaram Dance Team from Gunwi-eup won an encouragement award at the 19th Daegu Metropolitan City Resident Autonomy Program Competition, held at Daegu Textile Complex, Gunwi-gun announced Monday.

The competition brought together resident autonomy program teams representing each district and county across Daegu, with participants showcasing performances they had prepared for the event.

Gunwi-gun fielded two teams — the Gunwi Heungbaram Dance Team from Gunwi-eup and the Gunwi Ubo Arts Troupe from Ubo-myeon — both of which delivered energetic performances on stage.

The Gunwi Heungbaram Dance Team drew an enthusiastic response from the audience with a lively diet dance performance, earning the encouragement award.

The win extends Gunwi-gun's consecutive record to two years, following the 18th competition last year, when teams from Hyoryeong-myeon and Sobo-myeon took home an excellence award and an encouragement award, respectively.

The achievement reflects the success of the resident autonomy program, through which local residents have voluntarily participated and consistently honed their skills.

"I am grateful to the resident autonomy committee members who cheered on the competing teams with one heart," Gunwi-gun Mayor Kim Jin-yeol said. "Winning two years in a row is a precious result born of residents' passion and participation, and we will actively support efforts to further invigorate resident-centered autonomy."
