All members of the Gyeongju City Council in North Gyeongsang Province visited the Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant headquarters and the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD) on Friday to inspect safety management and operational conditions at nuclear and radioactive waste facilities in the area.

The site visits were organized to examine nuclear safety management practices, verify the operational status of radioactive waste disposal facilities firsthand, and review key issues directly tied to public safety.

The council members first toured the Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant headquarters, where they received briefings on plant operations. They then visited Macstor, the dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel, to check on its storage and management conditions.

The group also moved to Wolsong Unit 3, where they inspected the plant's operational status and the management of its wet storage facility for spent nuclear fuel.

In the afternoon, the council members visited KORAD, where they received a briefing on the management of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste and held a question-and-answer session. They then went to the observation deck of the Phase 2 near-surface disposal facility to review its operations.

Gyeongju City Council Speaker Im Hwal said the council would continue to listen to voices from the field and maintain close attention to ensure that nuclear-related institutions carry out thorough safety management.
