Police rushed to a commercial building after a report that someone had opened fire and shattered a window — only to find the culprit was a golf ball hit from a building across the street.

According to Yonhap, the manager of a seven-story commercial complex in Iljik-dong, Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province, called 112 at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, saying someone had fired a gun and broken a window.

The manager had discovered a small, circular hole punched through the glass on the seventh floor before making the call.

Officers who responded to the scene determined that a golf ball struck from a building about 20 meters away was responsible. The incident had actually occurred Sunday.

A man identified only as A, who had been in a sixth-floor office in the building across the street, told responding officers he had mishit the ball while practicing. No injuries were reported.

The window of A's own office had also been broken, but he said he had not realized the ball had flown across to the other building.

Police closed the case without pursuing criminal charges after A and the owner of the damaged building agreed to settle through civil compensation proceedings.
