Food trucks deployed at top electronic-card sites; employer forums also planned
The Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association will visit 12 construction sites across the country ahead of Chuseok to encourage about 4,000 workers.
The association announced Monday that it will hold a "Chuseok outreach communication and encouragement event for construction workers" over six business days, from Tuesday through Sunday, with each of its regional branches and centers taking part.
The association selected participating sites from construction projects recommended by its branches and centers nationwide, weighing factors such as electronic card usage rates and on-site cooperation. Sites with higher electronic card usage were given priority, with the aim of encouraging broader adoption of the system.
During the event, food trucks will be stationed at each site to provide beverages and snacks, and employer forums will be held at each branch. The association plans to hear directly about difficulties and suggestions from construction sites, including issues related to workforce composition and safety management.
Last year, the association held a holiday event at 17 construction sites nationwide for about 800 workers. This year it has expanded the event to 12 sites and about 4,000 workers. By distributing events across regional branches and centers rather than concentrating them in specific areas, the association also aims to reduce regional disparities in welfare benefits.
Association Chairman Jang Ki said the holiday outreach events, previously skewed toward certain regions, had been expanded to a nationwide scale. "We will put construction workers at the center of everything we do and listen once more to the voices from the field," he said.
The association plans to use findings from the regional forums — including conditions in the construction sector and site-specific characteristics — to inform policy development. Tied to next year's 30th anniversary, it will also pursue field-centered management encompassing construction site administration, skilled workforce training and worker welfare support.
