Gyeongbuk College of Science and Technology held a three-day "Future Railway AI Practical Skills Training" program from Monday to Wednesday in partnership with Postech's Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and the North Gyeongsang Province branch of Korea Railroad Corp., known as Korail.

The program was organized by Gyeongbuk College's WE ANCHOR project team as part of the Ministry of Education's WE ANCHOR project, with Postech's Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and Korail's North Gyeongsang Province branch serving as co-organizers.

A total of 77 people took part, including 58 Korail North Gyeongsang Province employees and 19 students enrolled in Gyeongbuk College's railway electrical engineering program.

On the final day of training, Wednesday, representatives from all three institutions gathered at the multipurpose hall of Gyeongbuk College's 148 Art Square to hold a consortium agreement signing ceremony and workshop.

The three institutions agreed to actively incorporate field-level railway demands into regular curricula and to continue identifying follow-up collaborative projects aimed at solving on-site challenges.

At the workshop, Eom Sang-heum, head of management and personnel at Korail's North Gyeongsang Province branch, delivered a special lecture covering changes in the railway industry environment, case studies of AI and digital technology adoption, and the core competencies expected of future railway workers.

A discussion session followed, with Korail presenting field challenges and AI-related needs, Postech offering technical feasibility assessments and application advice, and Gyeongbuk College outlining plans to incorporate the findings into its curriculum and pursue further collaboration.

"Through this agreement and training, we were able to provide current employees with practical AI skills they can apply immediately on the job, and give students access to the latest AI education tailored to their field of study," said Choe Jae-hyeok, president of Gyeongbuk College.
