Mungyeong city in North Gyeongsang Province is running a forage feed support project worth 4 billion won ($2.99 million) to help stabilize operations at local livestock farms. Following a first-half distribution in April, the city completed its second forage feed supply of the year with a second-half round worth about 2 billion won.

According to the city, the second-half distribution ran from Tuesday to Friday at the livestock auction market of the Mungyeong Livestock Cooperative, supplying 3,268 tons — 4,970 rolls — of high-quality forage feed to 637 farms raising herbivorous animals such as cattle and goats.

The feed varieties — timothy, oat hay and tall fescue, all favored by livestock farmers — were selected through a rigorous review involving the Mungyeong chapter of the Korea Hanwoo Association and other livestock industry groups.

Going beyond simple feed distribution, the city focused on improving farm productivity and the quality competitiveness of livestock products by supplying premium forage chosen for its nutritional value and digestibility.

The distribution was carried out under strict quarantine measures aimed at preventing foot-and-mouth disease from spreading into the city following outbreaks in neighboring areas.

Mungyeong Mayor Kim Hak-hong said the city would continue listening to farmers and pursuing practical support measures. "We will also maintain a tight quarantine system so that livestock farmers can run their operations with confidence and stability," he said.
