Sangju City in North Gyeongsang Province held a midterm progress review Thursday for its AI-based smart wildfire prevention drone surveillance system project at the city hall conference room.

About 30 people attended the review, including Sangju Mayor An Jae-min, members of the Sangju City Council, North Gyeongsang Province officials, and representatives from related local governments and project implementing agencies. The session proceeded with a project status report, followed by a question-and-answer session and an open discussion.

Sangju has been carrying out the project through private consignment for 18 months, from December last year through May 2027.

Key components of the project include the development of AI-powered intelligent CCTV systems and wildfire detection algorithms, the manufacture of drones and drone stations, the construction of a ground control system platform, and the establishment of a standardized equipment model through field testing.

Dmakers Co., the project's contracted operator, presented the current status of implementation and the direction of system development. Attendees offered a range of opinions on detection accuracy, system stability and practical applications at actual wildfire sites.

Following the review, a field demonstration was held at a former middle school in Gonggeom for those who wished to observe, allowing participants to assess the operation of drones and related equipment and evaluate their applicability in real-world conditions.

"We will do our utmost to successfully build a wildfire surveillance system using advanced technologies such as AI and drones, protecting the lives of our citizens and our precious forest resources," Mayor An said.
