South Korea reviews readiness and assesses security impact; government urges immediate halt, citing UN Security Council resolution violations

The National Security Office at Cheong Wa Dae convened an emergency security review meeting Saturday in response to North Korea's launch of short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, conducting an intensive assessment of South Korea's military readiness and the broader security implications. The government condemned the provocation as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions and strongly urged Pyongyang to halt such actions immediately.

Cheong Wa Dae said in a statement that North Korea had fired several short-range ballistic missiles from the Wonsan area into the East Sea on Saturday, prompting the emergency security review meeting with the participation of relevant agencies including the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

At the meeting, the National Security Office closely reviewed the South Korean military's response measures activated immediately after the missile launch. Officials then conducted a comprehensive analysis of the launch's impact on the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and on South Korea's own security, and discussed a range of follow-up measures, including the maintenance of military readiness.

Cheong Wa Dae said the meeting emphasized the need to ensure South Korea's readiness posture was fully maintained, and urged North Korea to immediately cease its ballistic missile launches, calling them a grave violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
