Gimcheon city in North Gyeongsang Province announced Friday it is holding a social media event called "One Shot of Kimbap" to stir nostalgia for the beloved dish ahead of the 2026 Gimcheon Kimbap Festival.
The event runs through Sept. 27 and is designed to build anticipation for the upcoming festival by inviting the public to share warm memories tied to kimbap from years past.
Participants are asked to submit old photos of kimbap from memorable occasions — school sports days, picnics and family trips from the 1970s through the 1990s. The event is open to everyone.
To enter, participants must scan their original photos at a resolution of 300 dpi or higher and submit them via a Naver form QR code linked in the official kimbap festival Instagram account.
A total of 20 photos will be selected, with each winner receiving a gift voucher worth 50,000 won ($37). The chosen photos will be on display at the 2026 Gimcheon Kimbap Festival, which runs from Oct. 23 to Oct. 25.
"Kimbap is a food that brings back fond memories for everyone," said Park Mi-jeong, head of Gimcheon's tourism policy division. "We hope this becomes a warm occasion for people to pull out old photos from dusty albums and share the stories of those days."
