Hankook Tire & Technology announced Friday that it has renewed the FIA 3-Star Environmental Certification, the highest rating under the International Automobile Federation's environmental certification program.

The FIA 3-Star Environmental Certification is awarded to organizations in the motorsport and mobility sectors to assess their environmental management and sustainability practices. It evaluates a company's overall environmental management system across five areas: environmental performance, energy consumption reduction, logistics efficiency improvement, waste management optimization and carbon neutrality programs.

Hankook Tire first obtained the 3-Star certification in 2024 and has now maintained it following this year's renewal review. The company received final approval through a rigorous assessment by the FIA's sustainability division and will hold the certification through July 2028.

When it first earned the certification, the company was recognized for its sustained efforts to strengthen sustainability and address climate change in its role as the exclusive tire supplier and official partner of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the world's premier electric vehicle racing series.

Hankook Tire has also conducted life cycle assessments covering the entire Formula E tire supply process — from raw material procurement through manufacturing and transportation — and built a system to track and manage the carbon footprint across its product production operations.

The renewed certification reaffirms that Hankook Tire's motorsport-related environmental management system meets FIA standards. The company said it will continue to review and strengthen its ESG (environmental, social and governance) management activities and environmental management capabilities under its global integrated brand "Hankook."

Meanwhile, Hankook Tire has been deepening partnerships with global automakers. Through its European brand Laufenn, the company recently began supplying the second-generation summer performance tire S Fit 2 as original equipment for the Leon, a key model in the Seat lineup under the Volkswagen Group.
