Shinsegae Duty Free announced Friday that it has become the first duty-free retailer in South Korea to open a dedicated service on Kakao Tools, a feature within KakaoTalk's ChatGPT for Kakao platform.

Kakao Tools connects various brands and external services to ChatGPT for Kakao inside KakaoTalk, allowing users to access information and functions through conversational interaction.

The Shinsegae Duty Free tool offers a range of duty-free shopping information, including product recommendations tailored to a user's travel destination, popular items and sales rankings, ongoing promotions, and branch locations and operating hours. Tapping a product card takes users directly to the Shinsegae Duty Free website, where they can complete a purchase immediately.

Getting started is straightforward. Users can add Shinsegae Duty Free through Kakao Tools by accessing "ChatGPT" at the top of the KakaoTalk chat tab — no separate app download or login required.

Shinsegae Duty Free said it plans to expand the range of information and features available through Kakao Tools to further enhance its AI-driven duty-free shopping experience. "We will continue to expand services that make the duty-free shopping journey — from product discovery to information lookup — more convenient by leveraging AI technology," a company official said.
