Daegu Metropolitan Government has launched a public deliberation committee that will help determine the direction of construction for urban railway Line 4.

According to the city, the Public Deliberation Committee on Urban Railway Line 4 was formed Thursday. It held its first meeting at a conference room in the city government's Sangyeok office building.

The 15-member committee will oversee the entire public deliberation process for the Line 4 construction project going forward.

At its first meeting, the committee discussed four agenda items: electing a chairperson, establishing operating rules, setting procedures for selecting a research service agency, and designating a single point of contact for media interviews.

The committee comprises 15 members in total, including the head of the city's Urban Railway Construction Headquarters as an ex officio member. The remaining members are appointed and recommended by the city council, civic groups and relevant academic societies.

The appointed members are experts in seven fields: railway planning, urban environment, communication and public participation, fiscal and economic affairs, statistical analysis, humanities and social sciences, and conflict management.

Committee member Jang Woo-young of Daegu Catholic University was elected chairperson through a vote among members, while committee member Kim Yong-gu of Kyungpook National University was elected vice chairperson.

"As public consensus is crucial to the deliberation process for urban railway Line 4, we will strive to ensure transparency and fairness in policy decisions and create a citizen deliberation model that everyone can support," said Jang, chairperson of the Public Deliberation Committee on Urban Railway Line 4.
