Holiday events run Sept. 9-24 at traditional markets and alley shopping streets across the district, offering Onnuri gift certificates, market-issued vouchers, coupons and prizes based on purchase amount

Jungnang-gu will hold shopping events for "chuseok," Korea's autumn harvest holiday, from Sept. 9 to Sept. 24 at traditional markets and alley shopping streets across the district.

The events are designed to give residents real savings as they shop for the holiday at nearby traditional markets and alley shops, while boosting local spending and revitalizing the district's traditional commercial districts.

Seven traditional markets are taking part: Dongwon Traditional General Market, the Dongwon Traditional Market shopping street, Myeonmok Market, Sagajeong Market, Urim Market, Jangmi Jeil Market and Jungnang Dongbu Market. They are joined by 14 alley shopping streets — Taereung, Sangbong Meokja, Sagajeong Meokja, Jangmi Kkotbit-geori, Bongu Market, Mokdong Dokkaebi Market, Sinnae-gugil, Gyeomjae Hansin-gil, Jangmi Dalbit-geori, Urim Matsomssi-gil, Yangwon Sup-gil, Dongbu Market Baekgudan-gil, Dongbu Market Midrang-gil and Sagajeong Myeonmok-ro.

Each traditional market offers its own incentive. Shoppers who spend 50,000 won ($37) or more at Dongwon Traditional General Market, the Dongwon Traditional Market shopping street, Myeonmok Market, Urim Market or Jungnang Dongbu Market receive a 10,000-won Onnuri gift certificate. At Sagajeong Market and Jangmi Jeil Market, purchases of 30,000 won or more earn a 5,000-won market-issued voucher. Jangmi Jeil Market is also running a roulette prize draw for customers who spend 10,000 won or more.

The alley shopping streets are offering their own range of purchase-based perks. The Taereung alley shopping street hands out its own coupons based on how much customers spend, while the Sangbong Meokja alley shopping street gives a 5,000-won Onnuri gift certificate for purchases of 50,000 won or more. At the Sagajeong Meokja alley shopping street, shoppers get a 5,000-won certificate for purchases of 30,000 won or more, or a 10,000-won certificate for purchases of 40,000 won or more.

Events at the remaining alley shopping streets — Jangmi Kkotbit-geori, Bongu Market, Mokdong Dokkaebi Market, Sinnae-gugil, Gyeomjae Hansin-gil, Jangmi Dalbit-geori, Urim Matsomssi-gil, Yangwon Sup-gil, Dongbu Market Baekgudan-gil, Dongbu Market Midrang-gil and Sagajeong Myeonmok-ro — will also hand out Onnuri gift certificates, digital Onnuri gift certificates and prizes. Details and benefits vary by market and shopping street, and each event may end early once the prepared certificates and prizes run out.

"I hope residents preparing for chuseok will visit their nearby traditional markets and alley shops to shop economically for what they need, and also take part in the holiday events," Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said. "We will keep providing the support needed so residents can shop conveniently and make use of local commercial districts."
