The Korea Racing Authority said Thursday it had delivered 50 million won ($37,400) in emergency relief funds to the Korean Red Cross to support Nepal, which has suffered widespread damage from massive flooding and landslides.

According to the authority, the funds will be channeled through the Korean Red Cross to Nepalese residents who lost their homes to the flooding and landslides. The money will go toward emergency relief supplies such as food, drinking water and hygiene products, as well as recovery efforts in the affected areas.

"I want to convey my deepest sympathies to the people of Nepal, who are going through great sorrow and hardship because of this sudden natural disaster," said Woo Hee-jong, chairperson of the Korea Racing Authority. "I hope that this small gesture from the Korea Racing Authority can help, even in a small way, the residents of the affected areas return to their daily lives as soon as possible."

The Korea Racing Authority has been fulfilling its social responsibility as a public institution by supporting recovery efforts and helping displaced residents return to normal life whenever disasters strike. The authority arranged this latest donation to offer comfort to the people of Nepal amid the large-scale natural disaster and to join in humanitarian solidarity.

Earlier, the authority's Yeongnam regional headquarters delivered 10 million won in donations last month to support recovery efforts and displaced residents following heavy rains that struck South Gyeongsang Province.
