Gyeonggi education office, Dongducheon-Yangju education support office sign MOU

Yangju city has joined hands with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Dongducheon-Yangju Office of Education. The three aim to secure the city's designation as an education innovation pioneer district from the Ministry of Education.

On Wednesday, Yangju city signed a policy MOU titled "Win-Win Cooperation, Breaking Down Barriers" with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Dongducheon-Yangju Office of Education. The three parties agreed to work together for the successful pursuit of the education innovation pioneer district designation and to strengthen the region's educational capacity.

That day, the three organizations agreed to work together across the boundary between educational administration and general administration to resolve local education issues. They specified "designation as an education innovation pioneer district and promotion of balanced regional development" as one of 10 core agreement tasks.

Through the agreement, they will build a cooperative system for pursuing the designation and jointly discover and pursue education innovation tasks that reflect Yangju's local characteristics and educational conditions.

Key areas of cooperation include narrowing the education gap within the region and strengthening university-industry links to boost talent development competitiveness. They also include supporting connections with various elementary and secondary school projects, as well as preparing an operational plan for the education innovation pioneer district and providing consulting. Additional areas include establishing an operation plan while bolstering education policy support.

Yangju city plans to use the MOU as a launching point to step up its response to the call for pioneer district applications. It will maintain close cooperation with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Dongducheon-Yangju Office of Education from preparation through the project's implementation.

Particularly, the city plans to flesh out tasks that reflect Yangju's educational conditions and needs. These include narrowing the education gap between its eastern and western areas, expanding students' choices in education, and strengthening career and vocational education in connection with local universities and industry. It also plans to build an educational environment where students can learn and grow within the region. This will be done together with local education stakeholders such as schools, the education offices, the municipal government, local universities and industry.

"This agreement is meaningful in that Yangju city, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Dongducheon-Yangju Office of Education have formalized a cooperative system for the designation as an education innovation pioneer district," Mayor Jung Duk-young said. "Based on close cooperation among the three organizations, we will do our best to secure the designation so that we can narrow the region's education gap and give students in Yangju access to more diverse and higher-quality educational opportunities."

Building on the MOU, the three parties plan to flesh out the operational planning and detailed action tasks for the education innovation pioneer district. They will jointly respond to the call for applications and continue expanding cooperation with local education stakeholders.
