Donates supplies, volunteers at abandoned cat shelter

Leads efforts to protect biodiversity

Lotte Global Logistics said Thursday it volunteered and donated supplies at a shelter for abandoned cats on Wednesday to mark Korea's Cat Day.

Korea's Cat Day is observed by civic groups to raise awareness of abandoned and stray cats and to encourage greater attention to cat welfare and adoption. The day has been marked every Sept. 9 since 2009, with the date chosen to symbolize the long coexistence between humans and stray cats and the hope for a world without abandoned cats.

Lotte Global Logistics employees visited the shelter that day and delivered pet supplies the cats need, including scratchers and litter. Employees also cleaned the shelter themselves and cared for the cats to help them live in a more comfortable environment.

"We planned this activity to offer a small measure of support to cats that have suffered hardship," a Lotte Global Logistics official said. "We will continue to expand our support for the protection and welfare of abandoned animals going forward."

In March, Lotte Global Logistics also volunteered to protect abandoned dogs to mark International Dog Day. Employees visited the Korea Abandoned Animal Welfare Association in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, where they cleaned kennels and cages and walked the dogs. In addition, in May, the company carried out habitat conservation activities for the black-faced spoonbill, an endangered bird species.

Meanwhile, Lotte Global Logistics has recently taken part in a range of social contribution efforts to fulfill its corporate social responsibility, including a volunteer project with employees to make upcycled massage sticks, which were then donated to elderly residents in the local community.
