Senior officials from the government of Alberta, Canada, visited KMI Korea Medical Institute's (KMI) Gwanghwamun Center to experience the Korean-style comprehensive health checkup system firsthand and discuss mutual cooperation, KMI said. "The delegation that visited the KMI Gwanghwamun Center on Monday discussed ways to link Korea's comprehensive health checkup and preventive care system with Alberta's preventive health policy," KMI said.
The visit was arranged for KMI to share its systematic health checkup operating model and preventive care system, which incorporates digital technology such as AI-based imaging analysis, and to explore concrete opportunities for cooperation with Alberta's preventive health policy and early cancer detection project.
The Alberta delegation included Justin Wright, minister of primary and preventive health care; Sayid Ahmed, chief of staff; Matt Torigian, deputy minister; Kim Simmonds, CEO of Primary Care Alberta; and Sherri Wilson, vice president of government services at Alberta Blue Cross, along with other senior officials from the Alberta government and related organizations.
The delegation reviewed KMI's checkup process, from reception through testing, medical consultation and results management, to confirm how the Korean-style one-stop health checkup system operates and how efficient it is. They showed particular interest in the prevention-focused health management model, which identifies and manages risk factors before disease treatment becomes necessary, as well as the systematic operation of the checkup process covering numerous test items.
"This visit by the Alberta government delegation is significant in that it allowed us to share the competitiveness of Korea's health checkup and preventive care system directly with officials from a foreign government," said Lee Kwang-bae, chairman of KMI. "We will actively explore ways to align KMI's years of experience in health checkup operations and early diagnosis capabilities with Alberta's preventive health policy."
