Artist Park Su-kyung's solo exhibition "Itda. Part 1" runs from Sept. 8-14 at Mino Gallery in Dong-gu, Gwangju.
Themed "a record of connection that began in space," the exhibition reinterprets and reconstructs Park's space design projects for various people and places. It views these projects through the lens of "connection." Drawing on relationships between people and space that emerged from her actual projects, she has translated them into exhibition images and narratives.
The show presents works spanning spaces that capture children's movements and gazes, and exhibition spaces used differently by each visitor. It also includes historical and cultural spaces that link the memory of a place to the present. The different projects all stem from observing how people view and move through space, how they linger, meet others, and form relationships within it.
Park currently teaches interior design at Chosun University's College of Fine Arts, in the Department of Lifestyle Design, and serves as a member of Gwangju's landscape committee.
She has also continued research on residential regeneration and public design, carrying out projects under the Korea National Research Foundation and a pilot project for public design innovation support.
Park gained hands-on experience at Uwon Design and the interior team of Daeju Construction. She currently serves as CEO of Design Ieum, where she leads a variety of space design projects.
"Designing a space goes beyond creating a form -- it is a process of understanding the people who use that space and connecting the relationship between people and space with new possibilities," Park said. "I wanted to look back on the relationships between people and space that I discovered through my space design projects, and capture them as a single record."
