Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, said Wednesday that the volunteer group Jinsimeul Dahaneun Maeumhoe donated grocery care packages to local grandparent-headed households ahead of chuseok.

The donation ceremony, held Tuesday, was attended by Yeongju Mayor Hwang Byung-jik, Group Chairman Jung Min-young, other members and relevant civil servants.

The donated goods consisted of 18 grocery care packages worth a total of 5 million won ($3,720), which will be delivered to grandparent-headed families in the area.

Each package contains a variety of meal kits, groceries and daily necessities to help teenagers in these households prepare meals easily at home.

Jinsimeul Dahaneun Maeumhoe is a volunteer group formed in 2025 by 14 people working in the local retail and food service industries. The group has consistently carried out sharing activities for children and teenagers in the area, including support for Dream Start children and local care centers.

"Ahead of chuseok, our members came together hoping that grandparent-headed families could enjoy even a little more abundance and warmth during the holiday," Jung said. "We will continue to look out for neighbors in need and keep sharing warmth with the community."

"I hope these carefully prepared packages reach grandparent-headed families along with warm wishes," Mayor Hwang said. "Yeongju will also keep working to spread a culture of sharing in which neighbors look out for one another."
