Pohang City in North Gyeongsang Province said Tuesday that Indian Ambassador to South Korea Gourangalal Das visited Pohang City Hall to pay a courtesy call on Mayor Park Yong-sun, during which the two discussed ways to expand exchanges and cooperation between Pohang and India.
That day, Park and Das reviewed the achievements of their cultural exchanges to date and discussed expanding cooperation into a wider range of fields, including youth affairs and education as well as industry and the economy.
Pohang and India have maintained friendly relations mainly through cultural exchange.
In January 2016, Pohang held a ceremony marking India's Republic Day, and in March 2017, the city partnered with the Indian Cultural Center in Korea to host the Pohang India Film Festival, presenting residents with a performance of the traditional Indian dance form Kathak and Bollywood films.
Building on the mutual understanding and goodwill fostered through such cultural exchanges, the two sides plan to use the ambassador's visit as an opportunity to expand their existing cultural and people-to-people exchanges into the areas of youth affairs, education, industry and the economy, laying the groundwork for a forward-looking partnership.
"Building on the friendly relations we have built up over the years, we will expand cooperation with India in various fields, including youth affairs, education, industry and the economy," Park said.
