Cheongdo-gun in North Gyeongsang Province announced Tuesday that it has finalized its first supplementary budget of the year. The budget raises the original budget by 36.9 billion won ($27.5 million), or 4.87 percent, to a total of 793.1 billion won. It comprises 722.9 billion won in general accounts and 70.2 billion won in special accounts.
The supplementary budget focuses on easing the burden on residents struggling with high oil prices, drought and heat waves. It also aims to carry out practical projects that residents can feel the effects of on the ground.
Key projects include about 8.3 billion won for a victim support fund tied to high oil prices. The county also allocated about 2 billion won to support the issuance of local gift certificates aimed at stabilizing residents' livelihoods. To address drought and heat wave conditions, the county allocated 120 million won for a drought-response water development project, among other measures. It also set aside 2.4 billion won to support crop disaster insurance premiums.
"I hope this supplementary budget can serve as welcome rain for residents struggling with high oil prices, heat waves and drought," Cheongdo-gun Governor Park Kwon-hyun said. "We will continue to listen more closely to residents' voices and keep pursuing field-oriented livelihood policies that residents can feel the benefits of."
