Daegu held the first "mayor and district chiefs' policy meeting" of its ninth popularly elected administration on Tuesday. The meeting brought together Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho and the heads of the city's nine districts and counties.

The meeting's main agenda items included joint efforts by the city and its districts and counties to resolve lifestyle-related issues affecting residents. Participants also discussed plans to push forward the Daegu-North Gyeongsang Province administrative integration.

Participants agreed that the integration is a key task for boosting the region's future competitiveness. They pledged to work together to pass the related special law and carry the process forward.

Daegu also asked the districts and counties for active cooperation in strengthening the execution of its integrated care system so that it functions smoothly on the ground. The city also called for cooperation in expanding orders for local construction companies and tightening oversight of subcontracting.

Alongside this, the city urged district and county officials to pay close attention to identifying unsung contributors who have quietly devoted themselves to their communities. It called for active recommendations so that they can be nominated as candidates for the city's Proud Citizen Award.

"The city and the districts and counties are like gears that turn the same clock together," Choo said. "Though each of us plays a different role, when we mesh well together we can create change that citizens can feel and drive Daegu's greater development."
