Recruitment plan for 2027 school year teacher exam announced
267 elementary teachers, 53 special-ed elementary teachers to be hired
Smart glasses banned from exam rooms
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will select 370 public kindergarten, elementary school and special education teachers for the 2027 school year. The number of elementary teacher slots rose by 55 from last year to 267.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said it will announce its recruitment plan for the "2027 school year competitive exam for selecting candidates for public (national and private) kindergarten, elementary school and special education school teacher positions" on Wednesday.
The 370 public teacher slots break down as follows: 43 kindergarten teachers, 267 elementary school teachers, seven special education kindergarten teachers and 53 special education elementary teachers. This is an increase of 72 from last year's 298 public teacher slots. Particularly, elementary teacher slots rose by 55, from 212 last year to 267, while special education elementary teacher slots rose by 23, from 30 to 53.
Over the past five years, the number of public kindergarten, elementary and special education teachers selected in Seoul was as follows: 166 for the 2023 school year, 158 for 2024, 345 for 2025, 298 for 2026 and 370 for 2027. This year's recruitment size is the largest in the past five years.
National schools will select a total of six teachers on commission across three schools: two elementary teachers at the elementary school affiliated with Seoul National University's College of Education, and two special education elementary teachers each at Seoul School for the Deaf and Korea Woojin School. Private schools will select a total of 17 teachers across 11 foundations — eight elementary teachers, one special education kindergarten teacher and eight special education elementary teachers.
Applications will be accepted online through the teacher recruitment system from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2. The first-round exam will be held Nov. 7, and the second-round exam will take place Jan. 6-7, 2027. First-round passers will be announced Dec. 9, and final passers will be announced Jan. 27, 2027.
Starting this year, smart glasses will be separately designated as a banned item in exam rooms. Electronic devices were already barred in principle, but the office of education specified smart glasses as a prohibited item to block cheating using the latest information and communication devices.
