Heat illness payout is 100,000 won in four districts, 200,000 won in Ulju-gun

Ulsan city is publicizing the heat illness coverage available under its citizen safety insurance program, which it operates jointly with five district and county governments, as prolonged heat waves driven by climate change raise the risk of heat-related illness. Any resident registered in Ulsan is automatically enrolled in the program, which covers losses from disasters and accidents, with no separate sign-up required.

Under the 2026 coverage terms, residents in four districts receive 100,000 won ($74) upon a confirmed heat illness diagnosis, while those in Ulju-gun receive 200,000 won. Ulju-gun also provides an additional hospitalization allowance of up to 100,000 won for a maximum of five days. Claimants must submit the required documents directly to the relevant insurer within three years of the diagnosis date. The four districts are covered by the Korea Local Finance Association (1577-5939), while Ulju-gun is covered by Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance (1522-3556).

Ulsan city is working with district and county offices, public health centers and medical institutions to ensure residents do not miss out on benefits simply because they are unaware the coverage exists.
