Seongnam City Philharmonic Orchestra to perform at GS Caltex Yaeulmaru
A concert celebrating the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo will be held at GS Caltex Yaeulmaru, South Jeolla Province's largest multipurpose cultural arts performance facility.
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the main theater of Yaeulmaru in the Ungcheon district, featuring conductor Keum Nan-sae — known for making classical music accessible to general audiences — alongside the Seongnam City Philharmonic Orchestra.
The program opens with Glinka's opera overture "Ruslan and Lyudmila," celebrated for its dynamic energy, followed by Galliano's "Tango pour Claude," performed in collaboration with bandoneonist Kim Jong-wan.
Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2, a work brimming with youthful energy and lyrical charm, will feature pianist Charlie Albright, who has drawn attention as a next-generation classical virtuoso.
After intermission, Waxman's "Carmen Fantasie" — a violin showpiece rearranging melodies from Bizet's opera "Carmen" — will take the stage.
Violinist Choi Su-jin's technical brilliance will blend with the orchestra's rich palette before Stravinsky's suite "The Firebird" closes the evening.
An official at GS Caltex Yaeulmaru said the concert was organized to offer visitors traveling to Yeosu for the two-month-long World Island Expo an additional attraction, coinciding with the venue's 14th anniversary.
The concert is open to elementary school students and older, and all seats are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis for Yeosu residents and visitors. Further details are available on the Yaeulmaru website.
