The Dalseong-gun Council in Daegu announced Monday that it has formed an ethics special committee for the first half of the 10th council term and begun operations.
The council appointed six members to the ethics special committee — Kim Eun-young, Jeon Hong-bae, Lee Sang-bong, Bae Han-gon, Kim Seong-hwa and Jeon Sun-ae — at the first plenary session of the 329th regular session, which opened Wednesday.
The committee subsequently elected Kim Seong-hwa of the Democratic Party of Korea as chairperson and Jeon Hong-bae of the People Power Party as vice chairperson.
Under Article 65 of the Local Autonomy Act, the ethics special committee reviews local council members' compliance with the ethics code and code of conduct and handles disciplinary matters.
"I will fulfill my duties as chairperson so that the committee operates fairly according to principles and standards, and so that the Dalseong-gun Council can emerge as an upright and trusted institution," Kim said.
