Singer MC Mong, whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun, has announced he will select one student from the audience at a university festival and pay a full semester's tuition in cash.

On Friday, MC Mong said during a TikTok live broadcast that he would be performing at Kyonggi University's festival. "I'm going to a university event — the Kyonggi University festival. I've become the closing act," he said. He is set to take the stage at the Kyonggi University festival on Sept. 11.

MC Mong previewed the surprise giveaway, saying he planned to pick one student and cover their tuition. "I'm thinking of paying one semester's tuition for one student," he said. "I'm going to bring the tuition money in cash. I believe good deeds come back to you one way or another."

MC Mong also addressed the controversies surrounding him. "I'll keep living that way even if people curse at me," he said, adding that he had seen a news article about a joke he and others made on Friday about a "night booking." "When I think about it, I'm remarkable — I'm still out here living through all this," he said.

Meanwhile, MC Mong was recently sued for defamation by singer and actor Kim Min-jong.

In May, MC Mong claimed Kim had been involved in illegal gambling, the receipt of money and witness bribery, while referencing an illegal gambling ring involving celebrities. The two sides have since been locked in a public dispute over the truth of the allegations.

Kim's side denied the allegations, saying the claims had "seriously damaged the honor and trust built over 38 years since his debut in 1988." Kim's representatives said the fallout caused tangible harm, including the suspension of talks over an upcoming Hollywood project and two advertising contracts that had been under active discussion at the time.
