A man in his 50s who sneaked into a stranger's home to defecate, claiming he had been struck by a sudden stomachache, has been fined by a court.

Judge Park Gwang-min of the Cheongju District Court's Criminal Division 1 sentenced the man, identified only as A, to a fine of 3 million won ($2,210) on charges of trespassing.

A is accused of crossing the yard of a single-family home in Boeun-eup, Boeun-gun, North Chungcheong Province, and defecating in front of the boiler room at around 3:50 p.m. on Dec. 31 last year.

He had driven to the area to meet family members nearby when he was suddenly seized by stomach pain, investigators found.

The homeowner discovered the feces, which had been covered with toilet paper, after reviewing CCTV footage, then filed a police report.

A had previously served seven years in prison for aggravated robbery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and was released in October last year. He subsequently violated the terms of his probation — which included a prohibition on drinking — and was sentenced to 10 months in prison, returning to custody in April this year.

The court said it had determined the sentence "taking into account the defendant's motive for the offense and the circumstances following it."
