A Samsung Electronics union representing workers in the company's Device Experience division, which handles consumer electronics and other finished products, has announced plans to hold a rally outside the home of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong to demand that a compensation gap be addressed.
The union, known as Donghaeng, will kick off its campaign with a launch event on Sept. 18, followed by rallies and solo protests near Lee's residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, according to industry sources and Yonhap.
Donghaeng contends that the DX division was sidelined during wage negotiations that Samsung Electronics management and labor concluded in May, and that the compensation gap between the DX division and the Device Solutions division, which handles the semiconductor business, has grown excessive.
The union is also demanding that each DX division employee receive 1,000 shares of company stock, that a common fund be established and distributed based on a fixed share of companywide performance, and that base salary increases be applied uniformly across the entire company.
Earlier, the union held a rally near Samsung Electronics' Seocho office building in Gangnam-gu on Aug. 21, where members argued that the company's deteriorating profitability was the result of management failures and called on executives to open a dialogue with DX division employees over their demands.
