Nowon-gu District Mayor Seo Jun-o signed a mutual cooperation agreement with the Seoul Nowon Police Station on Friday afternoon at the district mayor's office to establish a safety net for at-risk elderly residents in the district.
The agreement was drawn up to build a stronger inter-agency cooperation framework in response to growing demand for the early detection of at-risk elderly residents across Nowon-gu, timely crisis intervention, and ongoing case management.
The need for closer collaboration has grown particularly as the number of at-risk elderly cases referred through police channels has continued to rise. From July 2023 through the end of August this year, a total of 176 cases were referred through the Aged Person Officer unit, of which 95 received counseling, case management, and other forms of support — amounting to 825 interventions in all.
Building on the agreement, the two agencies plan to expand their cooperation beyond specific departments to an institutional level, establishing a more integrated framework covering the full spectrum of services — from identifying at-risk seniors to counseling, case management, and emergency support.
About 10 people attended the signing ceremony Friday, including District Mayor Seo, Seoul Nowon Police Station Chief Gil Woo-geun, and officials from both agencies. The event included introductions, a tea reception, the presentation of letters of appreciation, the signing of the agreement, and a commemorative photo.
"Close cooperation among relevant agencies is essential to identifying seniors in crisis more quickly and connecting them with the support they need," Seo said. "Together with the Seoul Nowon Police Station, we will make sure no senior in need is overlooked and build a tight-knit safety net where elderly residents can live with peace of mind."
