Actor Lee Dong-ha, who left a strong impression as Nam Sil-jang in the SBS drama series "Agent Kim Reactivated," has successfully wrapped up his run in the stage play "The Seagull," cementing his reputation as a reliably compelling performer.

Based on the eponymous play by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, "The Seagull" probes the essential meaning of life, art and love through its characters' experiences of longing, sorrow, hope and despair.

Lee played Trigorin, a celebrated writer adored by the public, in the production, which closed Monday. Known for his distinctive character interpretations and magnetic performances, Lee brought depth to the role's complex inner life — a man of fame and talent who is nonetheless perpetually unsettled and tormented by the anguish of creation.

He was also praised for his nuanced portrayal of an artist's inner turmoil, human frailty and the delicate emotional tension of a man torn between love and impulse. Audience members responded with comments such as "His stage presence was truly overwhelming," "It's remarkable how completely his energy shifts with each character," and "Lee Dong-ha on stage really is something else."
