Songpa-gu rowing team claims two gold medals and one bronze at the 20th Hwacheon Peace Cup National Rowing Championships; takes first in double sculls, first in coxless pair, third in single sculls
The Songpa-gu rowing team won two gold medals and one bronze at a national rowing competition, again demonstrating the squad's standing as one of the country's top programs.
Competing at the 20th Hwacheon Peace Cup National Rowing Championships, held Aug. 21-23 at the Hwacheon Lake Rowing Course in Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Province, the team delivered a dominant performance across three events to claim the triple crown.
The team showed exceptional coordination in the double sculls, with Kim Han-na and Chae Se-hyeon finishing first in 7 minutes and 37 seconds to take gold. Chae Se-hyeon and Jang Ye-jin then added a second gold in the coxless pair, crossing the line in 7 minutes and 56 seconds.
Kim Han-na also earned a bronze medal in the single sculls, finishing third and capping a standout showing for the squad.
Since its founding in 2000, the Songpa-gu rowing team has accumulated titles at the National Sports Festival, the Asian Rowing Championships, the Asian Games and other major domestic and international competitions over 25 years, establishing itself as a leading force in women's rowing.
Songpa-gu is the only one of Seoul's 25 autonomous districts to directly operate its own rowing team. The district provides athletes with a modern residential training facility near the Misari Rowing Course and organizes systematic training camps at Chungju Lake, Hwacheon Lake and other venues as part of its ongoing support for the program.
Songpa-gu District Mayor Seo Gang-seok congratulated the team, saying he was deeply grateful to the athletes for giving their best despite the prolonged heat wave. "This achievement is the precious result of the athletes' relentless effort and passion," he said. "We will continue to provide full support so the team can perform at the highest level."
