More than 30,000 visitors packed Jangan 1 Waterfront Park on Friday and Saturday for a music-filled beer festival; venue space and brewery lineup doubled from last year, with large-format beer sales and QR mobile ordering boosting convenience; embassies of Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia and the Hungarian Cultural Center joined as partners, with diplomatic envoys attending to mark the event's global ambitions.
Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul wrapped up the 2026 Dongdaemun-gu Beer Festival, held Friday and Saturday at Jangan 1 Waterfront Park, to an enthusiastic reception from domestic and international visitors, the district office said.
Now in its third year, the festival adopted "The Value of Together" as its core slogan — a theme meant to go beyond simply enjoying beer, bringing together neighbors of different generations and nationalities to share cultures, connect, and experience the warmth and solidarity of city life.
Over the two days, more than 30,500 residents and foreign visitors filled the banks of the Jungnangcheon stream, soaking in an everyday romance at the heart of the city.
The festival expanded its reach as a global cultural exchange by partnering closely with the Thai, Philippine, Cambodian and Hungarian embassies in Seoul. The Thai ambassador to South Korea and other diplomatic envoys and guests attended in person to celebrate the event's success and mingle with visitors.
Embassy collaboration booths offered signature beers from the Philippines and Cambodia alongside fresh traditional Thai coconut drinks, giving visitors an exotic culinary experience. Guests sampled well-known domestic craft beers alongside world beers and beverages rarely found in Korea, experiencing the festival's "Value of Together" slogan with all five senses.
Festival operations also saw a significant upgrade from the previous year. The venue space and the lineup of participating breweries and food trucks were doubled to improve comfort, while a food truck mobile QR ordering system — designed to cut waiting times — and large-format beer sales drew widespread praise from attendees.
Thoughtful customer-care touches from entry to exit also drew attention. Visitors arriving at the festival gates received "Condition Stick" hangover-relief jelly as a welcome gift, in the spirit of a safe and healthy festival culture, while those heading home were sent off with a complimentary "Maxim T.O.P Barrel Aged" canned coffee. Online, visitors raved that it was "a full-course festival — they look after your liver on the way in and sober you up with coffee on the way out," with many praising the organizers' thoughtfulness.
The festival also staged a chanson performance full of romantic atmosphere, supported by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture's "Arts for Attractive Seoul" program and in cooperation with the Gangbuk Cultural Foundation. A small-donation project run in partnership with Phoenix Darts channeled the festival's energy into community support: funds collected through dart games will go entirely toward the sustainable creative work and programs of local artists and cultural practitioners.
One attendee said the experience felt like "a city vacation that made the Seine in Paris seem unnecessary — feeling the Jungnangcheon breeze, listening to chanson and drinking beer." She added that "it was a real treat to pick and choose from Philippine and Cambodian beers and Thai coconut drinks you'd normally never get to try."
"Thanks to the active cooperation of four embassies and the enthusiastic support of our residents, this year's festival truly lived up to the meaning of 'The Value of Together' and grew into a genuine global cultural festival," Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min said. "Going forward, we will continue to build on the rich spaces and cultural resources of Dongdaemun-gu, including Jangan 1 Waterfront Park, to further strengthen the brand value of this festival as a signature urban healing event that bridges generations and borders."
